At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress enacted the FFCRA and extended Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to millions of people. This extension was called the “Medicaid Continuous Enrollment Condition.”

The extension ends on March 31st, 2023, affecting 5 -14 million people. It's called “Unwinding Medicaid Continuous Enrollment Condition”.

CMS has announced a new Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for people losing these extended Medicaid or CHIP benefits. This new Qualifying Life Event (QLE) lets individuals enroll in ACA Marketplace health insurance plans between March 31st, 2023, through July 31st, 2024.
